ACORN CREEK LOOP - Silverthorne, CO
Location: Acorn Creek Loop in Silverthorne, CO
Distance: 4.7 mile loop, moderate
Notes: In the Spring, it’s excellent for enjoying Colorado wildflowers. We hiked this trail on June 24, 2023 and it was perfect! In the Fall, there are a lot of aspen trees to enjoy the color change.
Dogs: Dogs are allowed on leash.
Parking
The parking lot is a good size but does fill up fast during peak days and times. We arrived on a peak wildflower weekend at 8am and the lot was already half full. There are people cycling in and out so you may have to wait a minute to find parking if it’s full.
The Trail
There is an Acorn Creek Loop and an Acorn Creek Trail. We started by hiking the Acorn Creek Trail. While it is beautiful, it’s an incline the entire way up and the wildflowers start to fade at the higher elevations. The Acorn Creek Loop runs at a lower elevation and boasts of more wildflowers. The trail is somewhat narrow in areas so be sure to respect that and stay on the path.
Things to Remember
Stay on the trail! Unfortunately, I saw several people walking off the trail deep into the flowers to get “the shot.” If everyone were to do this, the wildflowers would be destroyed. So remember, you can get great photos and enjoy while staying ON the trail.
No picking the wildflowers!
Give uphill hikers the right of way. Many people wanted to stop for a breath and water as they were hiking up and let us pass. Just remember, if they don’t it’s a courtesy to move over for them to pass. It’s definitely hard to stay on the trail in some areas, so do your best to step off as little as possible and try not to step on the wildflowers.
Pack in, pack out. If you bring snacks, etc. please be sure to take them with you and leave the trail just as you found it.
