DEEP ROOTS WINERY & BISTRO

Neighborhood: RiNo

Recommendations: My favorite wines are the Petite Sirah and Cabernet Franc. The Pomegranate Lemonade is such a good cocktail and doesn’t even taste like alcohol so be careful! All of the food was REALLY good. The fried mushroom dumplings were definitely a favorite! I go more into details below.

Happy Hour: Tuesday all night, Wednesday - Friday: Open to 6pm ($2 off all glasses)

Immerse yourself in an unforgettable wine and culinary experience at Deep Roots Winery & Bistro located in RiNo Arts District. From housemade wines to incredible bites, this is a place you do not want to miss out on! Deep Roots Winery & Bistro is a labor of love and the team’s commitment to a quality experience is evident from the time you walk in. It completely exceeded my expectations so let’s dive in!

The Atmosphere

It’s located in the heart of RiNo, adjacent to Bierstadt Lagerhaus. In the back, the spaces share a large area full of oversized games such as “basketball pong” and cornhole. It’s a great place to enjoy a date night or come with a group of friends. The main dining area is full of details that make it so special including swing tables (which were incredibly fun), standing log tables (that weigh over 800 lbs each), a boho picnic area, normal dining tables, and couches.

The winemaking process and equipment are built into the design. You can see exactly where the grapes are sorted and processed, the fermentation process and the cellar. This would be a really fun, interactive experience for hosting a group or team building experience!

The Food

The small, scratch kitchen serves up some amazing food! I was surprised to learn that they make all of their breads in-house and serve it in many different ways from the crunchy wrap on the dumplings to pizza to focaccia bread served with the board. They also make a lot of homemade glazes, jams, and sauces. All of the food pairs really nicely with the wine making it the ultimate experience. We tried the fried mushroom dumplings, small charcuterie & cheese board, and the bruschetta plate (all photographed below). The fried mushroom dumplings are marinated crimini mushrooms wrapped with homemade dumpling wrappers and served with two sauces. They were crunchy and cooked to perfection. The charcuterie and cheese board was one of my favorites I’ve had. It was apparent the cheese and meats were quality and rich with flavor. It was served with marinated olives, housemade pickles, and jam. The small board was plenty of food for four people to share. The bruschetta plate included three different styles: 1) traditional tomato mix with balsamic reduction and basil, 2) melted brie with amazing toppings (I forgot what all was on it), 3) cucumber and red onion medley, lemon zest, dill, coconut tzatziki, and micro cilantro. No detail was left behind and I would come back here just for the bites alone.

The Wine

Family-owned and operated, Deep Roots Winery’s craft starts with the roots of their family. All of the wines are hand crafted by a small team of vintners using both Colorado and California grown grapes. One of the vintners, Camron, gave us an awesome experience to fully understand the love and dedication that is poured into each batch. When you ask for a recommendation at Deep Roots, you’re not talking to a random bartender, you’re getting advice from people who know they’re wine!
